The creamy coconut curry laksa (formerly known as Nyonya Laksa..) The baba and nyonya clutural from Wikipedia stated that "Baba & nyonya are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th century chinese immigrants to the nusantara region during the Colonial era". The nyonyas love thier food hot and spicy. Ingredients are very important in thier dishes. Every single element of the ingredients need to be pounded. They believe this pounding methon could actually bring up the flavour of the ingredients. But unfortunately, the younger generations of the nyonya clutural prefer to use modern technology gadgets such as the fast and easy to use food blender. In-order to get a full experience of the nyonya clutural, I highly recommend you to watch the drama series "Little Nyonya". Most of the pounding and cooking showcases the actual daily lifes styles of a nyonya clutural.
